How to Build a Competitive Application

Most PT programs require the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), although specific requirements such as minimum scores vary by program.
Shadow
Most PT programs require at least some shadow/volunteer/work experience in a PT setting. Some programs, like ODU's DPT program, require students to gain experience in at least 2 different settings (acute care + outpatient clinic, for example)
Get a Certification
- Become a PT Tech: No diploma or certificate is needed to become a PT tech. Many clinics will train students on the job, so ask around and keep your eye out for PT tech positions. Often if you start out by shadowing or observing in a clinic, that can be a great way to get your foot in the door to ask for opportunities to work as an aide or tech.
Volunteer
Request to volunteer in the physical therapy department.
