Degree-Seeking Graduate Students

Your UIN can be found in your admissions decision letter on the application portal.

You will need this number to activate your student account.

If you are unable to locate your UIN, please email gradadmit@odu.edu.

Please include your UIN in all emails to your advisor, professors, and administrative offices.

Your ODU MIDAS ID and ODU student account will provide you access to essential online platforms that facilitate registration, course delivery, degree planning, and email correspondence.

Review the IT webpage guide to assist with activating your ODU MIDAS ID and setting up two-factor authentication.

  • Login to the . You can check under ‘Status Alerts’ for any holds on your account.


Access your ODU email account by selecting the Outlook App on the myODU portal. Your email address will be your MIDAS ID @odu.edu.

  • Important university communications will only be sent to your ODU email account.

On your , select ‘Status Alerts’, and under ‘Current Holds’ select the Criminal History Questionnaire.

In most cases, the CH hold is removed immediately after completion.

Use your ODU email account to contact the Graduate Program Director (GPD) or assigned advisor for your program of study. Include your UIN in all correspondence so they can best assist you.

Your GPD can help you with course selection and degree planning, in addition to advising on any available departmental Graduate Assistantships or funding opportunities.

To be considered for federal financial aid and need-based scholarships, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Students are held individually responsible for the information contained in the Undergraduate and Graduate Catalogs. Failure to read and comply with University regulations will not exempt students from whatever penalties they may incur.

Make sure to request your final official transcripts which reflect your completed academic term, awarded degree, and/or final grades.

Students must request official transcripts directly from their prior college or university and have them sent to ODU. Please have them mailed to us or sent by email to gradadmit@odu.edu. All transcripts mailed, emailed, or attached to applications by students are considered unofficial.

Most institutions offer electronic delivery methods. Transcripts can usually be requested through your previous institution’s Registrar or Student Records office.

An AM (admissions) hold will be placed on your account in the first semester of enrollment until we receive all official transcripts. Missing transcripts may result in a withdrawal of the offer of admission.

Full time, on campus students must complete and submit the required forms and documentation to Student Health Services by August 1 for the fall semester, January 4 for the spring semester, and May 1 for the summer semester.

Non-Degree Seeking Graduate Students

Non-degree students pursuing a Graduate Certificate or intending to earn a degree should contact the respective department for advising. Usually, the Graduate Certificate coordinator or Graduate Program Director will serve as your advisor.

Non-degree visiting students (not intending to earn a certificate or degree) should contact the professor of the course(s) they wish to take if there are any pre-requisite, degree program, or major restrictions. Visiting students are not assigned an advisor.

Non-degree students are generally limited to 24 credit hours of undergraduate level courses and 12 credit hours of graduate level courses (this does not apply to certificate programs that require additional credits).

Non-degree students are not eligible for financial aid.

Non-degree students will not receive transfer credit evaluations.

All non-degree students must meet the continuance requirements as stated in the University catalog.

Permission to attend ODU as a non-degree seeking student does not guarantee admission as a degree-seeking student at the undergraduate or graduate level, nor does it guarantee admission into a certificate program or teacher licensure program.
